Project Description:
Triplett-King performed the substructure design and provided final plans for this value engineering proposal with Rea Construction. The project consisted of widening the existing 1,075 ft., 10-span, dual bridges to the center with 2-column, reinforced concrete piers supported on 6 ft. diameter drilled shafts and rock sockets.
Because of the accelerated schedule for this heavy traveled section of I-77, Rea Construction and Triplett-King proposed this value-engineering redesign to save construction days and provide a more safe construction project for Rea and the SCDOT while eliminating cofferdams, spread footings and rock excavation.
Triplett-King worked with the SCDOT Bridge Design and Bridge Construction personnel during the redesign to ensure the maximum potential for time savings by completing the design and plans within a two month window.
