Project Description:
The bridge replacement project along SC 9 in Chester County consisted of replacing bridges over Seeley and Turkey Creeks between Chester and Lockhart, requiring a road closing and detour for this major route. Triplett-King proposed an alternate design of utilizing large drilled shaft foundations and long, prestressed concrete bulb tee beam spans to save over two months construction time. This allowed an early opening of SC 9 to traffic. These two bridges consist of a 180 ft., 2-span continuous and a 325 ft., 3-span continuous for live-load Bridge with prestressed concrete beams supported on 5 ft. diameter drilled shafts. Design and plans for both bridges were completed in just four months.
