Jim Triplett and Merritt King were colleagues and friends who began their career with the then Ralph Whitehead and Associates. While carpooling from Rock Hill, SC to Charlotte, NC, every day for several years their dreams of starting a company were developing. Jim Triplett left Ralph Whitehead to take over ownership of his family business, United Contractors, Inc., a leading bridge-building contractor throughout the Southeast. Their initial idea for Triplett-King was to just provide assistance to the contracting company. Little did they know that the one-man shop would grow into a multi-million dollar company.
